What’s FACT and What’s OPINION in Teaching Boys to Write

Fact: Achievement data for students in the United States, including writing, shows boys lagging significantly behind girls.
Opinion: Boys don’t like to write.
Fact: Male learning styles are often mismatched with many current educational practices.
Opinion: Boys who have difficulty in school are likely suffering from processing disorders.

Teaching writing to all students is challenging, but when it comes to teaching boys, it is critical for teachers to sort through the facts and their opinions. This session will help teachers think about the ways they teach and respond to boys’ wiring in the classroom.
